It’s Just A Little Sock

Well, nearly another week gone by, and a need for another blog post. Again, not a lot to report, knitting-wise. My sock is still in progress. In the end, I decided that I would rip back and redo the heel. It’s much better this time, and I’m just doing the toe decreases now. I’m a bit fed up with it, to be honest. The yarn is boring me, and I can’t believe that I have to do the whole second sock. It’s just not the sock I had in mind, but having ripped most of the foot out, when it came to re-doing it I couldn’t be bothered to re-do the whole pattern. I am, actually, quite disenchanted with this yarn. I saw it in the shop and wanted it, but I think, realistically, I am slightly over brightly coloured self-striping sock yarns. Most of my hand-knitted socks are this, and I want to try something new. Perhaps now would be a time to pick up Hedera, but it’s not really appealing, for some reason.

In other news, I decided that I was not prepared to frog Isabella, so I fudged the lace, and have begun the finishing. Finishing is not much fun, though, so that’s been progressing slowly too.

One knitting development was the purchase of yarn for a Christmas present! Yes, already! Also in the order was some yarn for my Secret Pal, which I want to keep for myself…I won’t, though. The Christmas present yarn is some Cygnet 4-ply in green, red, and black, and it is destined to become a pair of socks for my father. It sounds rather early (and it is, he has a birthday before Christmas!), but I know I want to do these socks, and I want to start them while I’m still excited about them! In terms of structure, they are going to be very basic, but they are going to be cleverly adapted to suit my Dad’s personality and lifestyle.

I never thought my Dad would wanted knitted socks, as he owns sundry pairs of identical black socks with coloured heels and toes so that pairs can be identified. Generally knitted socks are not this innocuous.  It turns out, however, that he would like some knitted socks. So knitted socks he shall have. I will also be doing a pair for my Mum, which will be cleverly adapted for her by being wool-free.

Most of my time and energy this week has been focused on my studies. They needed some focus, and will continue to need some focus. This may mean a continued knitting trickle, but on the other hand, I have lots of ideas, and hopefully they will come to fruition in due course.

  • You sound like your studies are taking all your mental energies: its frustrating then when all you want is some completely relaxing knitting, and you actually have to think about it rather then just do it.
